Looks great, i have been working on something similar actually.
i plan on still releasing it in a few weeks, i see now i need to step it up with features and graphics … I also added imdb scraping… with a few other features i hope no one beats me too!! lol

I’ve try it under Windows 2000 server but:
- i’ve modify some php.ini parameters because application tell “undefined variable”. i’ve fix it
- application web works fine with Mozilla, not with IExplorer 8 because missing buttons config & index
- roku application don’t work. In debug i see Error invalid or missing PHY in routine category.
I like the project goal but i cannot test more because roku application dont show more.

If you are having any trouble I’ve started a list of Known Errors on the roConnect Google Group you can check out. The errors catologed so far are the following:
• IE8 - Left Sidebar missing
• PHP Errors on “Roku” tab
• roConnect Channel not installing (WAMP)

php vars solved,
Wamp running fine,
roconnect installed fine into Roku Sd device,
but when running the application .brs in telnet debug of roku i see the error:
Invalid or Missing PHY, into the category routine.

Does anyone know what might be causing this error? I’ve looked at other forums and it appears that one cause is defining min bandwidth. The weird thing is I can’t reproduce this on my own machine. I’ll keep trying different environments and see what I get.

“Invalid or Missing PHY” is usually caused by a bad URL. If it’s happening on the poster screen, then it’s probably a bad HD/SDPosterURL.

Your channel looks very interesting and useful. For the last few months, I’ve been using MyMedia, which has been very difficult.
Is this channel currently, and if so, will it remain free? Any information would be appreciated.
My plans are to keep the channel free forever and keep developing it. It’s more of a fun side project for me that I do in my personal time. I may charge for the Android app down the road, but for the initial release it will be free. I’m not really out to make money on this, just learn and provide something useful to the community. Check the known errors page on the roConnect Google Group first. That may get you up and running, if not become a member of the group and post your problema and I will get on it asap! Music streaming and picture sharing are part of future releases, once I get the video component nailed down solid.
Just joined your beta, looking forward to trying this out. Hopefully this will develop to a point where it is like Orb (http://corp.orb.com/) and will easily stream to all my devices. It would eliminate the need for me to run 2 different server softwares.
My Android app for roConnect is finally completed and is ready to be released. I will be releasing the app on the android marketplace in the next two weeks. The android app includes a media player so you have access to all your videos on the roConnect server, a Roku remote so you can remotely control your Roku Player, and a new feature called “roPush”. roPush allows you to “push” the movie from your Android phone and resume playing at the exact spot on the roConnect channel on your Roku Player. How do you install RoConnect? Can anyone help? I must need more indepth instructions (sorry). …but I went to roconnect.com and downloaded the .zip file but ran into difficulty unzipping. then when I was able to unzip the file there was no .exe file to execute and run from desktop (laptop actually). am I missing something? this doesn’t seem to be your typical file that you download and then install?
I’ve found videos on youtube.com that clearly show a roku connect gui interface which talks about it being easy to use to push vids from pc to roku device (looks like Vuse) but haven’t been able to find any .exe file. thanks!
I think the problem with this software is again, you need to run a server on your computer, set that server up yourself, and then transcode your media. Too much bother and not easy for users who are not computer friendly.
An optimal solution would be to create a channel like Orb which does all the work for you. Just add folders and go. Orb has a web interface, go to http://mycast.orb.com using your login and password, and poof, everything you have is there and playable on any device.
It’s true Orb may be simpler to set up at the moment, but roConnect is still starting out and anything can happen. If anything you get exposed to some technology that you might now and you are all the wiser for doing so. Sometimes it’s fun to get your hands dirty. Anyways, roConnect is a project by me, a one man shop, whereas Orb is a company with many professionals. It probably is better because I have limited time, but what I do is fun and I can see my software becoming better than theirs someday. So check it out and you won’t be disappointed with where it ends up.
