Any suggestions for a good ad company for channels?
Thank you.
Any suggestions for a good ad company for channels?
Thank you.
But they don’t provide ads. So maybe the question should be how do you get in with an ad exchange?
Thank you, have not heard of that service. Will check into it.
Yes, looking for an ad exchange to serve ads on channels.
@AaronMSpelling , yeah, but I know what he means. He (as well as many other people) is looking for some company that will provide ads for his Roku channel. Do you have any insight on that.
Yes, sorry for not clarifying…looking for a company to place ads onto my channel is correct.
That’s great you have your own advertisers. Marketing to locate advertisers is something I would love to have done but finding them I would think is not an easy task. I’m glad it is working out well for you though. I’d like to do that in the future,
I have the same need. Roku has provided a list of companies like FreeWheel, SpotX and more, but most won’t contact me back or have a 1 Million per month ad run minimum. Any luck in your search so far?
Hi,
No, unfortunately found nothing so far. Was hoping to find one so I can add the link they provide to get the ads running. Hope you find one, and if you do, keep me posted if you will and I’ll do the same.
Roku did supply a list of companies, but no actual contact info and most of the companies just don’t respond. The ones that have required a larger audience similar to what Roku requires before being accepted.
The list Roku provided was:
SpotX
Telaria
Freewheel
AOL
LKQD
Beachfront
OpenX
Rubicon
My only replies have been:
Freewheel won’t tell me how much volume they need other than “We can revisit this conversation once your audience is there but right now its not close to the 25M impression ballpark”, which I thought would be 25 thousand ads per month minimum. My research showed “An impression is when an ad is fetched from its source” and The “M” in CPM represents the word “mille,” which is Latin for "thousands. I provided my math to show I was well over that threshold, but FreeWheel said it was short of what they needed, but would not clarify further even as I attempted several times to try and understand their terminology and math and contrast it with my provided calculations. My formula was 16 ads per hour x the number of hours per month of streaming. Their use of “impressions” may be different as the rep directed me to an old article that referred to web page impressions and not streaming media. My contact there was Patricia Whitney (pWhitney@freewheel.com). Try giving her an email and if you get any clarification please let me know.
SpotX got back with me and were much more clear on their minimums. “We will need to see a minimum of 1 million monthly video ad calls from your inventory”. My contact there was Derek Quinn (dquinn@spotx.tv).
I went off list and heard back from Verizon Media, but after playing email tag I didn’t get a response for the actual meeting, but I intend to follow up again as the rep (Daniel Herrera daniel.herrera@verizonmedia.com) seemed like he was open to a call.
That is literally all I know about the subject. I contacted every other company on the list without any replies. Let me know if you have more luck than I did.
@fredfulsome , thanks for sharing. I fear that 25M may be 25 million per month. If so, that’s out of reach for me and probably most small developers. Keep us posted on what you find. My experience is similar to yours - most of these companies don’t even have the courtesy to respond.
It seems most want to cater to the large companies. It’s a shame because multiple small channels have contributed to building the platform one viewer at a time before the big companies jumped on the band wagon.
I am checking into something I came across. I’ll share it with you as soon as I check it out further and then you can also help me to check it and if it works for us, perhaps we will have a way to run ads. I hope it’s for real.
@newchannel Before expending effort and money on an ad server, you may want to read my response to the topic Does Roku place ads on Direct Publisher channels?
Okay, thank you. I read your post/ Thank you for providing it.
I have the adbreak in my json. I had an ad server company I was using previously. I placed their vast tag to run their ads.
I have been looking for another company to do the same but not found one. Another option I guess is to setup an ad server but I have not researched that yet to see what is required to get that going.
Hi,
I thought about that. I’m not familiar with how to do it and will have to go through the learning curve but willing. I’ll do some research on it. If you know of any good links for me to reference, I’d appreciate.
Thank you.
I just came across them the other week and have been checking into their service. Looks reasonable. Glad to know you have been using them. Confirms that they appear to be a good company to work with.
Thank you.
If I can set up the ad server, where do I get the ads?
I missed something in the thread citing the company you discovered. Also, do you are anyone else have the contact info?
Hi,
I’m checking into a company called Ad Speed. Let me know what you think.
Hi AaronMSpelling,
Is adspeed still going good? I have an idea for a new channel and as it progresses thinking about running my own ads on it once it has viewers etc. Perhaps adspeed will be a good option to run my own ad server. Just thought I would check back with you.
Thank you for your input.
