Can Roku play webrtc streams?
Any Updates Regarding This?
I founded Roku do not support WebRTC and Play WebRTC.
6 years later, I figured I’d try to resurface this. Please add WebRTC support.
- Far less latency (HLS the best we can do is 8 seconds; WebRTC is under 500 ms)
- Way easier to sync devices (yes, this is important in our use case and not sort of close; within 1 second second is required)
- Less bandwidth (arguable maybe but in our testing, yes, its less)
- All platforms already support WebRTC (we also have apps for Android, WebOS and Tizen – they all play WebRTC natively)
I personally love Roku and want to tell our users to buy Rokus, but right now it goes more like, “We love Roku but you will only be able to use our compatibility mode, as they only handle HLS, and that comes with a lot of latency and sync issues so you might want to add a cheap $30 dongle from __________.”
I fully expect to hear, “Then just use the other apps.” but I’m sure others getting to this thread have similar use cases, and again, I prefer Roku.
